Ambassador Johnson Participates in MIRCO-led COVID-19 Briefing

U.S. Ambassador to Namibia, Lisa Johnson.

On Tuesday March 16 U.S. Ambassador to Namibia, Lisa Johnson stated that Peace Corps Volunteers in Namibia and worldwide would return to the United States due to the COVID-19 outbreak.  She made the announcement during the MIRCO-led briefing on COVID-19, adding that volunteers will return when conditions permit.

“This is worldwide decision was made because the COVID-19 virus is rapidly spreading and transportation and international travel options are becoming more and more limited. They’ve decided to take everyone home until the crisis has passed. This does not mean that we are closing any of our Peace Corps offices or operations. Our Peace Corps staff – both America and Namibian – will remain in place here in order to resume volunteer activities as soon as conditions permits,” said Johnson during the briefing.
